We are delighted that the Gyllian Grindey, Planning Inspector, dismissed the appeal to build houses above Castle Cove beach. Thank you very much for your help, letters etc, all of which contributed significantly to this result.

Not only has this application been blocked but there is now a strong presumption against any development along the green edge of Portland Harbour.

The main reasons for rejection are the effect on the SSSI and the Jurassic Coast and on the character and appearance of the coastal locality. Her detailed comments are such that any building on this land would seem unlikely but we will keep a very close eye on it. She also indicates in her Appeal Decision that any building along the coast here will be difficult to justify.

We are local residents, visitors, and property owners who object to houses being built on the green fringe of Portland Harbour at Castle Cove near Weymouth in Dorset. To avoid further development along this part of the coast contact the local authority and your local councillor. Ask them to reconsider the development boundary so that this kind of application cannot reoccur in the future.

Register your views about policy and development boundaries by sending an email to Weymouth and Portland Borough Council and Ken Reed.
